Day 1. 19 May 2007 (Mon): Barcelona
Arrival in Barcelona and transfer to the hotel. Free time to recover
from jet-lag, dinner at the hotel and overnight in Barcelona.
Day 2. 20 May 2007 (Tue): Barcelona
Breakfast at the
hotel. Morning city tour of Barcelona, one
of the most beautiful and vibrant cities in Spain. We will visit Palau
de la Musica - one of the
world's leading concert halls and an Art Nouveau UNESCO World Heritage
Site. Then we go
to the Gothic quarter with its evidence
of the Roman and Medieval periods (outside visits). Our city tour will continue with a panoramic tour driving
by many famous sites including Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia. Afternoon free,
dinner at a local restaurant with typical Catalan food.
Free evening or 8:00pm PERFORMANCE
(Opera or Chamber Music Concert or private guitar-concert). Overnight
in Barcelona.
Day 3. 21
May 2007 (Wed): Barcelona - Pyrenees - Barcelona
After breakfast, travel to the scenic Pyrannes and to Camprodon where you will
have a chance to visit Issac
Albeniz’s birthplace, now a museum. Continue on to Rocabruna for a
typical Pyrennese lunch at a local restaurant, then on to Beget, a
medieval village famed for its scenic beauty. Return to Barcelona. Free time for dinner.
Free evening or 8:00pm PERFORMANCE

in Barcelona.
Day 4. 22 May
2007 (Thu): Barcelona - Zaragoza – Madrid
After breakfast, travel via Zaragoza, capital of Aragon. This lively city
was founded some 2000 years ago. Free time for lunch, then continue on to Madrid, where we
arrive around 5:30pm. Dinner at the hotel. 8:00pm PERFORMANCE (Opera or Chamber Music Concert or Zarzuela) Overnight
in Madrid.
Day 5. 23
May 2007 (Fri): Madrid
After breakfast, a walking tour of Madrid strolling by houses of notable musicians
of Madrid in the Old Town. Our experienced local guide will introduce to
you the secrets of Spain’s
capital. Afternoon free. Dinner at the hotel. Free evening or 8:00pm
PERFORMANCE
( Opera or Chamber Music
Concert or Zarzuela). Overnight in Madrid.
Day 6.– 24 May 2007 (Sat): Madrid
Breakfast at the hotel. Panoramic City tour of Madrid
including the Teatro Real, Ateneo and the Teatro La Zarzuela, etc.
followed by a guided tour of the world famous Prado museum. with a focus
on masterpieces and “musical paintings”. Free time for lunch. Afternoon travel to the El Ecorial
palace of the Spanish king, Phillip II, eternalized by Verdi’s Don Carlos
6:00pm Organ Music at the Basilica de El Escoria. If no organ concert
scheduled, demonstration of the organ by its player as part of your
sightseeing. Dinner at the hotel. Overnight in Madrid.
Day 7. 25 May 2007 (Sun):
Madrid – Toledo - Granada
Breakfast
and departure towards the Word Heritage City of Imperial Toledo, where all
the cultures of Spain (Christians, Moorish and Jewish) have lived
together. Toledo was a major cultural, esoteric and philosophy centre of
free thinkers in times when the rest of Europe was shadowed by the dark
ages. Visit the ethereal painter, El Greco’s house, the Alcazar, the
famous synagogue, the cathedral, etc. Free time for lunch and continue on to Granada. Arrival in Granada at around
7pm. Dinner at the hotel and overnight in Granada.
Day 8. 26
May 2007 (Mon): Granada
After
breakfast, guided tour of the
historic complex of the famous Alhambra. We shall visit
the most important halls and courtyards of the Alhambra, with the harem
and the famous Lions Court, as well as the Generalife Gardens -
magnificent gardens with flowers and fountains, place of leisure and
recreation of the Moorish kings of Granada.
The rest of the day is free to
explore the many tapas bars and eateries on your own. (8pm PERFORMANCE (Chamber
Music Concer or Spanish guitar concert). Overnight in Granada.
Day 9. 27 May 2007 (Tue): Granada – Cordoba -
Granada
Breakfast. Visit the museum of Manuel de Falla, of
one of Spain’s most renowned composers.
From 1921 to 1939, de Falla lived in the city in a simple, typical
Granada house with a vegetable and floral garden. The house where he lived
has now become a museum, recreating
the atmosphere that surrounded this musician by conserving his
furniture, mementos and personal
objects. Travel to the patio city of medieval Córdoba,
where we will visit the Mezquita, this impressive Arabian mosque,
the third-biggest in the world and considered the most beautiful and
original building of all Spain. This Mezquita initiated the
so-called Califal style, which combined Roman, Gothic, Byzantine,
Syrian and Persian elements and was the starting-point of all
Arabian-Hispanic architecture of the centuries to come.
Stroll around the Juderia, the old city of white-washed medieval houses
concealing flowery patios. Lunch
at a typical restaurant, then return to Granada. Dinner at the hotel and
overnight.
Day 10. 28
May 2007 (Wed): Granada – Seville
After breakfast,
travel to Seville, the city of Carmen and passion. Visit the cathedral,
the largest in Spain with the tomb of Christopher
Columbus. Audio tour
of the georgeus Reales Alcazares, a fusion of lace-like stone and rooms
carved in green gardens around hidden pools where gothic elements contrast
with dominent Islamic style. The
palace is one of the best remaining examples of mudehar architecture, a
Christian style heavily influenced by Moorish architecture. After a
typical lunch panoramic
tour of the Santa cruise quarter, the Plaza Espana and other sites.
Fiery evening Flamenco performance.
Dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight in Seville.
Day 11. 29 May 2007 (Thu): Seville – Jerez - Madrid
Breakfast, travel
to Jerez, the birthplace of Flamenco. In
the heart of the province of Cadiz, the town is synonymous for the English
word ´sherry´ -jerez – the delightful sweet wine which comes from this
town and its surrounding vineyards. Walk around the Old Centre, declared an official Complex of Historical-Artistic Monuments,
in which churches, old public edifices and unique buildings can be
discovered amongst orange trees and fountains. Wine tasting in
one of the many bogegas. Free time, then travel to Madrid. Farewell dinner
at the hotel. Overnight in Madrid
Day 12. 30 May 2007
(Fri): Madrid - departure
Breakfast then
transfer to the airport.
