Itinerary - Tour starts on Tuesdays or Fridays
DAY 01 Departure from North America, same day arrival in
Guatemala City.
You will be met by our representative at the airport. Transfer to the Hotel
Vista Real and overnight.
DAY 02 After breakfast half day city tour of Guatemala City, visiting La Avenida De Las
Americas, Avenida De la Reforma, Central Park, the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Shopping
District and other business and residential areas. Return to your hotel. Afternoon
transfer by bus to Antigua. City tour of the Old Town. A World Heritage sight and a
National Monument of the Americas, Antigua is outstanding among colonial cities. Former
capital of the territory encompassing Central America and southern Mexico, this city was
practically destroyed by a strong earthquake in 1773. Its urban plan and colonial features
however, are still preserved. Cobblestone streets, plazas, fountains, many monuments,
churches and convents dating back to the 16th Century testify to former greatness and
beauty. Overnight at the Hotel Villa Antigua.
DAY 03 Morning departure to Chichicastenango, Indian Market. Here on market days, you will
have the opportunity to step into the ancient Mayan world as smoky incense impregnates the
atmosphere with mysticism and religiosity. People barter their products and the market
explodes with color, tradition and folklore. Meet Mayan women, weavers par excellence,
using colors and designs passed down through generations from ancient Mayas. Strolling
through the vibrant market you will find excellent bargains, handicrafts of the greatest
artistic value. The tour continues to Panajachel on Lake Atitlan, one of the most
beautiful lakes in the World. It is surrounded by twelve Indian towns and protected by
three towering volcanoes: Atitlan, Toliman and San Pedro. Afternoon is free to enjoy the
beach or to stroll through the town and visit some interesting shops and restaurants.
Overnight at the Hotel Porta Del Lago in Panajachel.
DAY 04 Early morning departure to the Port in Panajachel. Cross Lake Atitlan by boat
to
Santiago Atitlan to visit the market, church and shops of this picturesque town nestling
between three towering volcanoes. Watch the interesting Pagan Rites of Maximon at the
local cofradia (religious brotherhood). After optional lunch transfer back to Guatemala City. Overnight at the Hotel
Vista Real.
DAY 05 Morning flight to Flores and bus transfer to the National Park of Tikal.
Guided
tour of the world famous ruins, visiting the Q Complex, Main Plaza, North and Central
Acropolis, the Lost World and also the local museum to see ceramics and jade collections.
Lunch . Late afternoon flight back to Guatemala City. Overnight at
the Hotel Vista Real.
DAY 06 After breakfast morning bus transfer with lunch on route to the archaeological site
Quirigua, a Unesco World Heritage site and National Monument, where the largest block of
stone ever carried by the ancient Mayas is to be found. There is a splendid series of
ancient ruins here and many statues, as well as tall monolithic stales depicting gods and
ancient rulers. In the afternoon transfer to Copan, Honduras. Overnight at Hotel
Marina.
DAY 07 In the morning tour of the archaeological site of Copan, often called the
Athens of the North Americas. Visit the Ball Court, the Great Plaza, the
pyramids and palaces with their famous intricate carvings attesting to the great artistic
talent of ancient Mayas. This artistic wealth is still alive today in the many elaborate
articrafts, carvings and hand-woven attire of todays Mayan villagers.
Enjoy an optional lunch inside the park and optional visit to the Sculpture Museum. Afternoon
departure back to Guatemala City by bus. Overnight at the Hotel Vista real.
DAY 08 Morning transfer to the airport and flight back to North America.
